Ah Travel

I've long said you know it's a good vacation when you forget what day of the week it is.  I may have found an exception to that rule.  We said so long to St. Emilion this morning.  As you can imagine from our previous posts we were anxious to go.  Not a terrible town just not a great town.  And we were looking forward to San Sebastian.  We piled into the car and fired up Jeeves.  Took us a bit to get him working because we were not on a road.  Jeeves doesn't approximate well.  After we got him figured out we headed out.  The drive was uneventful.  We arrived at the door of our pension about 1:30 in the afternoon.  A little stressful driving through a big city but not terrible.  I even found metered parking (took a bit to figure the meter - they only take exact change).  We went up to check in and…here's the ah-ha moment…it turns out our reservation wasn't until tomorrow night.  We'd left St. Emilion a day early.  Neither of us knew the date or day of the week.  In addition, the pension had no rooms available that night.  The lady at the front desk was nice enough to call around and our travel luck held, it turned out there was a small pension down the street that had just had a cancellation for the one night.  We went down and checked in.   We got the car parked for the night (maybe the stay here as we'll likely take the train to Bilbao), a bit expensive at 24 euro a night ($32) but it's safe.  The woman at the front desk of new pension was very kind and sent us to a decent (and cheap) place for lunch. One tomato and tuna salad and a ham baguette later and we're ready for siesta.  Only penance for our stupidity is we have to pay a bit more for parking and we have to move to where our reservation is tomorrow (drag our luggage about 2 blocks through the streets).  Sigh - must be a good vacation.
