I know I post a lot about food. One of the things I haven’t posted much about is the walking we do. On average we’re walking 5 to 7 miles a day. Not on any kind of mission to walk but just to see sights and find our food.
In addition to the walking we really only eat one substantive meal a day (dinner). Breakfast in Italy consists of a sweet roll, fruit and coffee, lunch perhaps a piece of foccocia, our afternoon snack is coffee (or in my case a beer) and a few very light appetizers. The dinners I already posted enough about. Timing is also a part of this: breakfast is around 9, lunch at 1, snack at 5 and dinner at 8.
All the food we’re eating is made fresh daily (or from fresh catches). Restaurants here go out of business if the goods are not freshly made. I’ve yet to see a refrigerator truck bringing anything to a restaurant here. I did see the chef bringing fish from the dock to our restaurant last night (hmmm perhaps another rule for my rule set in there somewhere).
The result of all this is I”ve lost about 10 pounds and Fran probably the same. Clothes fit better and I feel better. Some of you have commented about how all the food must put on weight. Hate to break this to you but not really – it’s actually the opposite.
