Last Meal in Parma

This was our most outstanding meal to date. It was at a little place called Ristorante D’Oro just off the Duomo in the pictures (in Piazza Duomo). Here’s a blow by blow description:

They Started by bringing us the pickled veges and bread as a anti-antipasti. I remember the kind Dad used to buy and eat in the jar (heck I buy and eat it). It’s a pale imitation of the real thing made with a white balsamic vinegar.

Antipasti

This is polenta with a tartufo (truffle) sauce and parmesan cheese. I’ll tell you what – until you’ve had truffles you haven’t eaten.

Primi

Fran had the Angelloi in Brodo (Fresh made tortellini in broth) and I had the Tuscan bean (cannellini) soup. Both were excellent and we kept eating each others food.

Secondi

This was fresh lamb chops and potatoes. This was the most tender, flavorful lamb I’ve ever had anywhere. Zum eat your heart out. We split this plate

Dolci

We forgot to get a picture of this but they brought out a little fig tart (gratis) at the end which was enough to satisfy Fran’s sweet tooth but no so sweet I wouldn’t eat it.

This was washed down with l’aqua Naturale (sorry don’t like the fizzy stuff) and Sangiovese (I tried Lambrusco the previous evening – on a scorchingly hot day I might like it but fizzy red wine is too much).

Obviously we thought highly of this two and a half hour dinner. Wonderful night and a great meal we’ll remember a long time.
