For those of you too young to get the reference – we had to do the 100 yard dash through de Gaulle (for about a mile). Our flight actually arrived early, we had about an hour. What we didn’t know was we had to go through passport control out into a non-secured area, through literally a mile of airport, back through security (same as in the states – remove shoes cause they’re quite dangerous), back up to what looked like a giant shopping mall, and then we found out our gate was changed. Fortunately the new gate was close to where we ended up. Long story short we made the plane with 5 minutes to spare.
You’ve got to understand we’d planned this out pretty thoroughly (see earlier post about the Air-France web site). We knew where we had to go – what wasn’t clear was the distance between gates and the checkpoints (passport control and security). So much for the plans.
Several folks let us cut in line at passport control and security – thank goodness or we would not have made it. The next flight to Naples is tomorrow AM so we would have had to find a place tonight and change our Sorrento hotel. I wouldn’t mind spending an evening in Paris but it would have been a rushed evening. Any way as always thanks to Fran’s aggressive travel style (get the hell out of my way) and some luck we made it. Luck seems to always follow us but we really stretch it at times.
We didn’t have time to find a wireless area and post. I did blow about 5 bucks and called the kids (about midnight in old e-burg). I’m amazed that my iPhone 1) reaches the kids w/o dialing country codes etc and 2) the connection is clear.
