Made it. I've got to say the google directions I printed out from the local train stations to our hotels have been spot on. Found the hotel without excessive walking.
The train ride was uneventful other than it was one of those milk runs with people standing in the aisles with live chickens and they were all yelling at each other etc (ok maybe I strecthed that a bit but let's just say it was colorful). Fran of course knocked over several old Italians and got us a pair of seats together. There were 4 stops in the hour trip. We picked up tickets for the next leg of our trip to S Margherita while we were at the station because it's an 7:50 train.
Parma looks great so far (what we saw of it from the 3/4 mile walk from the train station to Hotel Button). We're planning dinner at Al Cavalino Bianco on the Po river. Supposed to be one of the best eateries in northern Italy.
I'll try and find wifi and post some pics soon. Gonna go for a short nap (hey it's 15:00 here and everything is closed anyway) and then go explore the town.
