Day 1 - Canterbury to Chilham

First a quick update. Pinocchio’s the best Italian food in Canterbury was OK. A step above the Wildwood but not the best Italian either of us has had. We did have a spectacular veal liver pate though.

So in the morning we got up at 8, showered, took our bags down to the lobby and went back to Kitch for breakfast. Try the Avocado toast. Then we were on our way.

Here we are leaving Canterbury.

Sometimes the hardest part of any trip is finding the trail head. This was no exception. Though the instructions were good, the OS Maps app really saved us a lot of false steps. Finally, we started finding the markers for north downs way.

The setting was pretty bucolic, with a few exceptions.

At one point we crossed th A2 (for those of you that haven’t been here that’s like I5)! Fortunately, there was a bridge for us.

Overall a pretty easy walk with lots of nice trails. It finished on a few country roads into town at the large castle and, of course, a pub - The White Horse.

We stopped for a pint, a cheese board, chips, and we made a new friend.

Great chips.

Our hotel (the Woolpack) is under renovation so we’re back to eating at White Horse for dinner. We’ll see when this is renovated but it’s a bit shabby at the moment (just dust and chaos). The room we’re in likely hasn’t yet undergone renovation (at least I hope not), it’s serviceable but a bit low end.

More tomorrow on our way to Wye.
