Back at it…

Made is safely to Canterbury.  Fairly uneventful but long trip (Anacortes is a long way from the airport compared to where we used to live - thank goodness).

Started on the 17th with by waking up, getting a light bite to eat, taking a walk, showering, and heading down to Kelsey’s.

Century  Limo service picked us up at Kelsey’s and Valentin took us to the airport.  We arrived early (he was an aggressive driver) but could check in right away.

We hung, yet again in the British lounge until around 7:30 pm.  Finally made it to the airplane portion of our trip:

Flight was quiet - we both got a bit of sleep and arrived at Heathrow at about 1 pm. Custom’s was a breeze but we ended up waiting for our bags for 45 minutes. BA said there was a mechanical breakdown by our baggage carrousel.

Took the Piccadilly line (1 hours) to St Pancras and waited an hour for the South Eastern to take us (50 minutes) to Canterbury.

Last a short walk (10 minutes) from Canterbury West to the Abode Hotel on High Street.

The high street has gotten less posh - with the addition of several American chains.  But some great pubs still remain:

Our dinner choice on the day of our arrival was less than stellar (“not bad but not good”).  Called something like wild flower (on High Street) it was pretty average. But…Breakfast on the 19th was at Kitch, one of our favorite places to eat in Canterbury on High Street:

Spent most of the day wandering the town seeing all the old sites. If you go here don’t forget the Goods Shed by Canterbury West train station. An all week market and group of restaurants given a Michelin mention.

The lesson from dinner last night was: Before you arrive research a good place for dinner (before you are too tired to make a good choice!). Dinner tonight will be At Pinocchios. Supposedly the best Italian in Canterbury.

Well we’re off to pack up for our walk about tomorrow. Then I think a gin and tonic and Pinocchios.
