Day 2 - Chilham to Wye

A little slow getting out this AM. I wanted to wait for the taxi to collect our bags. As I said the Woolpack in Chilham was undergoing serious renovation. There was basically no lobby and workmen all over, I didn’t want to leave our bags in a dusty environment.

Had a eggs, bacon, tea, and coffee at the Church Mouse Tearoom (in the square where the White Horse Pub lives) and then we were off at the crack of eleven. We did learn one interesting thing: the 20 pound notes we have right now are no longer in circulation - we have to find a bank and take them in for exchange. Apparently new more counterfeit notes (like Canada with a plastic window) are now the rage.

Here are a few pics from our walk

Off again on the trail!

This time starting off down a long mountain road (well the name was actually “Mountain Road”, it was not really very mountainous).

Through pastures

And the Kings Forest…

In the forest we found an interesting little rest hut made of short logs. Top photo is from the inside.

Trail is well marked today. We really had almost no trouble and the issues we did face are because we got conflicting direction between an app I’m using (OS Map) and the directions provided by the WalkAwhile service. Both get us there, but the app kind of ignores road safety and sometimes makes you cross busy roads.

At one point (and you have to look hard) you could see Canterbury and the Cathedral (look between the trees on the left).
A last field and a cross over the A28 (which is a busy road providing a nice adrenal rush)

And we made it to Wye and the New Flying Horse Inn for a beer and lunch (a steak sandwich and chips). An added bonus they had Spitfire! So far we love the Inn - really nice room and nice people.
