Architecture of Bologna

Though we haven’t found the architectural consistency we enjoy in the smaller Umbrian/Tuscan hill towns there’s still some pretty architecture.  Not as harmonious as the hill towns but still thought you’d find it interesting.

The mysterious towers (no one knows who built them or why blah blah blah).  The shorter one is leaning – they call it the leaning town of Bologna.

Pergolas everywhere you go….every street has them.  The weather is great here now but it must rain a lot at times for folks to have built all of these.

Like most Italian towns there are a few thousand churches.  Though this wasn’t the biggest I found it interesting because of the flying buttresses.

And lastly the portico’s – there are 6 or 8 main ones around the central town (where we are staying) and 50 or so smaller ones. Some in better shape than others (as you can see from these pictures)
