So French trains are definitely not like the Italian trains. They cost more and there are fewer of them (I knew the cost more part). Italy subsidizes it's train system. France must not. So we went to get tickets for Arles today - and found out there's a boat load of French holiday's going on now and most of the trains are full. We actually had a very helpful woman at the train station ticket window working with us to get tickets. We decided to buy the rest of our tickets for this trip based on her advice.
The trip from Arles to Beaune is gonna be a killer it'll take 3 transfers and 7 hours. But we will get there. I thought we might end up having to rent cars (which would have been OK but expensive too). We may have to do some hotel shuffling between Colmar and Paris to accommodate dates - we'll see.
It's a relief to have all the tickets. I wish I'd researched trains here better. In Italy you can pretty much hop anything any time. Here you need reservations well in advance. Also late April/Early May is NOT the off season in France.
My goodness, you two have really become the experienced travelers. I'm so proud of your ability to accommodate the changes and small inconveniences that you encounter. Love hearing about all your experiences. Talked to Trav last night, he said he is now feeling great, and he and Kelsey are fine. Glad you are having such a good trip. Love, Mom
