Avebury

Avebury is a henge (think Stonehenge).  The difference between it and Stonehenge is you can actually get out and rub elbows with the bits of henge (Stonehenge the tourists are fenced out).  Avebury is also bigger by far.

So this is actually a selfie we took at lunch.  Sat with two very charming older English women.  One poured an entire packet of salt on her quiche...and then proceeded to say the food was good but a bit salty.

So this is one of the stones.  They were the same stones used in Stonehenge 30 miles away.  After an extensive tour of the museum the story at Avebury is the same as at Stonehenge: No one knows why or how they did this...blah blah blah.

Ken (for sizing)

Goats seemed to understand the purpose of the henge.  It's to rub your butt on.

The town of Avebury in the background.  The henge is pretty immense.  There are two circles the size of Stonehenge inside a third circle.  There are also 2 roads leading up to the outer circle.  Each is a a half mile long lined with the stones.  The things we humans did before television.
