So we’re at the station in Montpillier on our long circuitous route to Beaune – I’m not sure why but this is a 7 hour journey (end to end including layovers and some backtracking) for us. The trains have been mostly empty. Anyway the story. A nice little old lady comes up to us and asks which voie (platform) to Nimes (we think). Only she does so in French. Carolyn explains she doesn’t speak French. The lady says in English that’s about as good as my French that she is mostly blind and wants to know what platform. We get it – sort of - the only thing we didn’t quite get was the destination. Even now we both thought she said Nimes but we have this fear we sent the poor old woman off to platform “E” and a train to the wrong place. See my post below about Trains: France vs. Italy – we have truly become passengers on French trains.
