On the train from Naples to Orvieto we ran into Alvin Graziano (I don’t know maybe his mother liked the chipmunks). Alvin is a videographer who has traveled the world doing…well whatever it is videographers do. He’s 23, was born south of Sorrento and now lives in Lucca.
We talked the entire three hour trip. He had an infectious love for Italy, warned us of the bad places, recommended wine’s and restaurants for us in Bologna, and invited us to stay with him in Lucca (unfortunately we’re not headed there this trip). He’s coming to the sundance film festival next year and we asked him to plan on a side trip to Seattle (Trav and Kelsey he wants to try downhill biking and rock climbing with you as his guides).
Alvin’s English is better than my Italian so the conversation was mostly in English. He seemed happy to practice his language skills (as I was).
Who knows if we’ll ever be in contact with each other again (we exchanged e-mails) but this was one of those chance meetings that happen when you travel that you treasure. It’s what makes travel fun.
