Newcastle on Tyne

So…this is a big city. We stopped because there are several great restaurants but it turns out our hotel is a long way away from town (a couple of miles). Isn’t stopping us from restaurants (the hotel has a Michelin mention restaurant we ate in last night - see below) and we’ve found another for tonight about a half mile away (Lovage Jesmond). We could Uber too but we’ve fully booked out dance card.

We walked downtown today. The walk felt good, about 7 miles round trip. Looking forward to Alnwick (pronounced Ann-ick) tomorrow. Glad we saw the city but glad we only spent a day here. We’ll stay in Durham if we get this way again.

Here are a few photo’s from Newcastle. The shots can look quaint but there’s lots of steel and glass around these buildings.

We ate at the hotel (Jesmond Dene Hotel) last night (Michelin mention) and it was fine. Great artichoke volute, good Iberico ham-poached pear-blue cheese appetizer, and we shared a decent porterhouse steak with not so great chunky chips. A good meal - maybe 6-7 out of 10. Worthy of a visit? My answer would be no - but if you have to be in the area it’s passable.

Tonight we head off to a bistro we’re a bit excited about, Lovage Jesmond. Will let you know how it turns out.
